The University of Petra (UOP) celebrated the 52nd National Day of Oman under the patronage of UOP President Prof. Rami Abdel-Rahem. The ceremony was opened in the presence of Oman's Ambassador to Jordan Sheikh Hilal Al Mumari, Omani Cultural Attaché, Acting Director of the Cultural Section Mr. Salim Al Wahaibi, and Director of the Academic Affairs Section at the Omani Cultural Attaché Dr. Abdullah Obaidat.
A number of Omani students at UOP participated in the ceremony. The Oman's Ambassador to Jordan Sheikh Hilal Al Mumari congratulated His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said on the occasion of his country's 52nd National Day that is celebrated at the 18th of November of every year since 1970.
The Oman's Ambassador to Jordan Sheikh Hilal Al Mumari thanked the ceremony organizers, commended the UOP's academic standing, and emphasized that Omani students at UOP seek to take advantage of the knowledge they acquire on creativity and innovation in improving their capacities and experience and serving their country.
In a speech at the ceremony, UOP President Prof. Rami Abdel Raheem said:
"UOP celebrates today the National Day of Oman marking 52 years of the renaissance initiated by late Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said. Thanks to the renaissance revolving around the homeland and citizen, Sultanate of Oman became a modern country that we feel proud of".
Prof. Abdel-Rahem added: "On this occasion, we recall the special relations between the peoples of Oman and Jordan established by the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said and the late King Hussein Bin Talal, and strengthened under the reigns Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said and King Abdullah II Bin Al Hussein, May God Preserve Them".
The ceremony was initiated by the national anthem of Oman and the Royal anthem of Jordan and followed by a film on Oman, folkloric show, cultural show, poetic show, heritage songs, exhibition on the Omani heritage, main Omani dishes, and show by UOP band.
