The Civil Engineering specialization at the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Petra has obtained the American international accreditation "ABET," and the accreditation will remain valid for a period of six years until the end of 2029. Prof. Rami Abdel-Rahem, the President of the University of Petra, stated that the accreditation of the Civil Engineering specialization with the American accreditation is a significant addition to the university's programs, which have received numerous accreditations for most of its academic programs from international and local authorities.
Abdel-Rahem added that the university's accreditation reflects its commitment to implementing modern educational and learning practices, as well as its leadership in scientific research, patents, and distinctive infrastructure. This has facilitated the university's acquisition of various international accreditations from accreditation bodies worldwide.
Dr. Ziad Taqi Al-Din, the Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the University of Petra, highlighted that this achievement is the result of long and collaborative efforts by the engineering faculty team and the university staff over the years. The American accreditation is considered a distinctive "global achievement," given the international reputation, credibility, and acceptance of the American accreditation in global academic circles.
Taqi Al-Din stated that the Civil Engineering program at the University of Petra has fulfilled all the requirements of international accreditation, and the program received "strengths" without any negative remarks. The American accreditation team expressed admiration for the organized scientific steps taken by the Civil Engineering department at the University of Petra, noting that graduates of the Civil Engineering program since the first semester of the academic year 2020-2021 are included under the umbrella of international accreditation.
The American accreditation "ABET" is considered one of the most important international accreditations for engineering education programs. Graduates of the Civil Engineering department at the University of Petra will have broader opportunities for acceptance into top-ranked American and international universities, in addition to improving their chances of securing positions in prestigious engineering companies worldwide.
