The British Accreditation Service for International Schools, Colleges & Universities (ASIC) renewed for a period of four years its accreditation of UOP's Department of English as a premier department, making it the first in Jordan to obtain this accreditation.
The President of the University, Prof. Rami Abdel-Rahim, said, "The renewal of this accreditation comes as a result of good learning and teaching practices used by the University departments, along with the University output in research and community services. The University also makes sure its goals and intended outcomes are regularly measured according to a solid strategic plan that considers results on the ground. Thanks to its remarkable environment and distinctive infrastructure, the University of Petra succeeded in obtaining academic accreditations for all its faculties and majors."
The Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Prof. Mahmoud Al-Salman, highlighted the importance of international recognition of the programs and majors offered by the Faculty, which recognition raises the status of the University and helps it acquire higher ranks in international rankings, a goal the University management has been devoting assiduous attention to achieve.
For his part, Dr. Muhammad Al-Shunnaq, Head of the English Language Department, said that the Department has since its establishment followed best practices in education and training congruent with international and local standards. Al-Shunnaq added that the Department has been keen to renew the international accreditation of its programs to ensure quality of output and to meet the needs of the local and international labor markets, thus opening up more work and study opportunities for our graduates, both locally and abroad.
UOP's Department of English has distinguished professors who are graduates of British and American universities. It offers bachelor programs in translation and English language and literature and a master's program in translation. The department has up-to-date laboratories equipped with the best software, such as the digital language laboratory, the computer-assisted translation laboratory, and the simultaneous interpreting laboratory.
