The Department of Chemistry at the University of Petra welcomed 11th grade students from Al-Faris Schools and their teacher Ms. Alaa Abu Al-Sal. The students conducted a set of organic chemistry experiments to identify and distinguish groups of aldehydes, ketones, and alcohol, under the supervision of Alaa Shatat and Leen Ali from the Department of Chemistry.

Dr. Abdel-mnim Altwaiq, Head of the Chemistry Department at the University of Petra, said, "Community service is one of the university's main functions, given its role in developing the ability to participate and contribute to building society and solving its problems." He added, "Hosting Al-Faris Schools' students falls within the social responsibility of the University of Petra. All potentials are utilized at the Department of Chemistry at the University of Petra to serve school students who wish to conduct chemical experiments in its laboratories, which are equipped with the latest devices and tools necessary for these experiments. The utmost safety and security rules provided for students and supervisors encourage local secondary schools to visit and use these laboratories to conduct experiments from their textbooks."

After the laboratory training, Altwaiq gave a brief overview of the Chemistry Department. He pointed out that its bachelor's program had obtained German-European Accreditation (ASIIN) and the department had started a master's program in chemistry this academic year.

The delegation toured the university campus and facilities. The students expressed their admiration for the laboratory equipment, the university infrastructure and its beautiful gardens.
