President of University of Petra Sponsors Awards Ceremony of (Dawwer) Contest for 2023

Prof. Rami Abdel-Rahem, President of the University of Petra, sponsored the awards ceremony for "Dawwer Initiative for 2023" contest launched by the Department of Architecture at the University of Petra and titled "Designing a Creative Product Through Reuse of Materials".

Abdel-Rahem said that innovation represents the top of Maslow's hierarchy of needs, stressing the University of Petra's keenness to support talents and creativity, in addition to the participation of local community institutions in spreading environmental awareness through reusing materials innovatively.

Dr. Amer Al-Jokhadar, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Design, said that the Faculty is keen to keep up with new developments in environmental sustainability through the academic programs and courses offered, and to encourage relevant scientific research, cooperation agreements, and memorandums of understanding.

Eng. Shatha Qtait, Rapporteur of the Communication and Sustainable Community Service Committee in the Department of Architecture, stated that the contest aims to raise awareness of the local community, schools and universities of the importance environmental conservation through recycling and reuse by reviewing initiatives, events, contests and workshops organized by the committee to involve the local community and increase environmental awareness and sustainability.

A video was presented to show the works of more than seventy participants in the contest this year from Jordanian schools, colleges and universities, highlighting the stages of judging under the supervision of engineering, design and art specialists. The award included two age groups within the field of fashion design, furniture and home accessories.

In the first age group from 12 to 17, Nabil Zureikat, Martina Jarjoura and Noor Al-Duwairi from the National Orthodox School won first place. Jana Koueider and Bana Mismar from the Rosary Sisters School won second place. Ahmed Al-Najdawi and Omar Obeidat from the International Independent Schools won third place. In the second age group from 18 to 24, the University of Petra team, consisting of Saif Elyan, Lillian Shakhshir, Alia Al Bedawi, Mahmoud Badwan and Karam Asfan, won first place. Aya Aloul from Luminus Technical University College won second place. Noor Al Atiwi and Noor Daqqa from the German Jordanian University won third place.

At the end of the ceremony, certificates of appreciation were handed over to the panel of judges, supervisors, participants and supporters. Awards were handed over to the winners. The ceremony was attended by a group of deans of faculties, directors of units, academic and administrative members, in addition to the contest participants and their supervisors.
