Prof. Balawi obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Pharmaceuticals from the University of Jordan, a Master's Degree in Pharmaceutical Management and Marketing from the University of Huddersfield, and a Higher Diploma in Communicable Diseases from the American Institute of Healthcare and Hospital Management. Moreover, he obtained a scholarship for a PhD in Pharmacotherapy from the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Manchester in Manchester, UK. Later on, he completed a clinical fellowship in treating infectious diseases at the Royal Hospital (Salford, UK) and also finished advanced courses in the same specialization from Stanford University, USA, in 2014.

In addition to it, Prof. Balawi worked as a medical advisor in global medications companies, and as an academic consultant for multiple universities and educational consulting firms. He currently works currently as a Professor at University of Petra (UOP) and as a Clinical Practitioner at UOP hospitals and clinics. Prof. Balawi had long experiences in epidemic crises management during the spread of SARS, bird flu and swine flu in collaboration with national and international ministries of health and health institutions.

Also, Prof. Balawi delivered lectures about COVID-19 and its treatment protocols and participated in regular meetings about this virus in global hospitals and universities from 2020 onwards.

Prof. Balawi participated in more than 600 TV shows in local, regional and global channels until now. His efforts in combating and raising awareness of COVID-19 culminated in winning the Role Model Award 2020 from the United Nations Culture and Arts Organization (UNARTS), the Peace Knight Award from Peace Knights Foundation, and the Final Award for Graduates of UK Universities from the British Council.

Prof. Balawi also works as Vice-Chairman of the IGEC Company for Educational Consulting, as Medical Chairman of 7 Drs Company, and as reviewer for various journals specialized in medical and pharmaceutical sciences, such as: (BMJ, Drug Safety, IJCP, IJPP, JPP Journal of Evaluation in Clinical Practice, Journal of Pharmaceutical Health Services Research, Hospital Pharmacy, Journal of Primary Care and Community Health).

Prof. Balawi published more than 35 papers in refereed scientific journals and greater than 100 medical articles. His research interests include patient's safety, medical and treatment errors, pharmacovigilance (drug safety), and infectious diseases.
