UOP Announces Winners in Seventh Session of "Mahmoud Al Samra Literary Contest” for School Students

The University of Petra (UOP) announced the winners in the seventh session of "Mahmoud Al Samra Literary Contest” for school students. The winners were announced in a ceremony organized at UOP Sports Hall under the patronage of UOP President Prof. Marwan Muwalla.
457 male and female students from 113 school affiliated to all directorates of the Ministry of Education participated in the contest in three areas: Essay, short story and poetry. Deputy Dean of Arts & Sciences and UOP President Representative Prof. Rami Abdel Raheem distributed prizes to the winners of the first three places in each area and delivered certificates of recognition to the winners and students who participated in organizing the ceremony.
Contest results unveiled students’ talent in writing short story, poetry and essay, Prof. Abdel Raheem said, adding that those students would become reputed ones in education and culture and were confident that they will be constantly followed up until they improve.
In his speech delivered at the ceremony, the Chairman of Contest Preparatory Committee and Arabic Department, Dr. Atef Kanaan said competition between those talented students will result in achievements at personal as well as national level.
Mr. Atta Althroof from Patriarch Diodoros 1st School delivered participating schools’ speech. Mr. Althroof said that literature can change person vision to life through cultural achievements made by authors or by reading their biographies and learning about their matchless experiences.
The contest jury announced winners in all of its areas: In poetry, student Leen Hammad from Salma Bent Abdullah II School won the first place, student Namareq Bisharat from Kufor Abel Secondary School for Girls won the second place and student Anas Mustafa from Al-Hassad Al-Tarbawi Schools won the third place.
In short story, student Roua Abu Saleem from Abdul Rahman Ben Awf Elementary School won the first place, student Qutaibah Doadeiah from International Leaders Academy won the second place and student Tasneem Almahameed from Halima Elsaadiah School for Girls won the third place.
In essay, student Nibal Abu Aljoz from Abenyyat Secondary School for Girls won the first place, student Fatima Mohammed Ellian from Southern Om Summaq School won the second place and student Miran Alhinnawi from Rayah Bent Al-Hussein Secondary School won third place.
The contest jury consisted of: Dr. Abdullah Anbar, Dr. Lana Mamkegh, Dr. Baeth Al Horoob, Dr. Ibrahima Khalil, Dr. Haroon Rababah, Dr. Ahmad Al-Khateeb, Dr. Razan Ibrahim, Dr. Amani Suleiman, Dr. Atef Kanaan, Dr. Nabeel Hassaneen, and Ms. Hawzan Al Qadi.
