Overview
The Faculty of Arts & Sciences houses 6 departments and more than 75 full-time faculty members.  With approximately 1440 students, the Faculty of Arts & sciences account for more than one-fifth of the university's total undergraduate program registrations. What's more, approximately 40% of all students enrolled in Arts & Sciences courses are from other faculties at the university.
Several departments are considered among the finest in Jordan. These include English, Educational Sciences, Arabic Literature, Modern Languages and Chemistry. Departments and Academic Programs

The Department of Arabic Language and Literature
The Arabic Department is a thriving vibrant department of 11 Faculty and (79) enrolled undergraduates.
The Department develops the reading and writing skills of students, increases their understanding of Arabic contemporary discourse and literary heritage, and strengthens their creative and analytical abilities. The Department offers a wide range of courses in Arabic Literature: Pre-Islamic Literature, Abbasid Literature, Andalusian Literature, Arabic  Contemporary literature, as well as Arabic Linguistic courses: Phonology, Morphology, Syntax Psycho/Socio-Linguistics and Arabic and Islamic Culture.
The Department of English
The Department of English is a vibrant and growing department. It enrolls more than 289 undergraduate English majors and about 38 students enrolled in the MA graduate degree Translation program. The Department offers three study programs; Two undergraduate study programs and one graduate program. Students majoring in English Language & Literature complete a core of courses that develop abilities in critical reading and writing and knowledge of some of the foundational works of British and American literature: C19th Literature, C20th literature Renaissance Drama and Literary Criticism. Students who opt for the Translation Concentration gain skills for communicating and translating effectively. The emphasis is on reading, writing and speaking is evident throughout the curriculum. Two well-equipped language laboratories provide opportunities for students to strengthen their spoken and conversational ability. The curriculum in English offers preparation for students who seek careers in business, government, dvertising, journalism, banking and teaching.
The Department of Educational Sciences
The Department of Educational Sciences was established in 1991. Two programs leading to a B.A. Degree in Educational Sciences are offered: The Class Teacher Program courses focus on preparing undergraduate students to be qualified to teach school subjects for first, second and third levels of the primary stage; The Child Education Program focuses on preparing undergraduate students to be qualified in child care at home  and in kindergartens.
The Department of Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry is located in the IT building. The undergraduate curriculum includes each of four major chemistry sub- disciplines: Analytical, inorganic, organic and physical.
The Department of Basic Sciences
The Department of Basic Sciences was established in 1991. The aim was to strengthen the fundamentals of basic sciences for the scientific majors at the University. The Faculty is committed to educating and preparing future professionals and educational leaders in the scientific streams of the university, through pre-professional courses and/or programs. The mission of the Department focuses on:
  1. Promoting mathematics and physics within the context of a liberal education
  2. Stimulating a passion for continuous learning and for various modes of reasoning
  3. Providing students with the means for clear, creative, informed and critical scientific thinking and providing students with the means for clear, creative, informed and critical scientific thinking
  4. Encouraging students to enjoy the beauty (and the necessity) of Math and Physics in life.
The Department of Modern Languages
The Department aims at providing students with basic language skills, listening, conversation, reading and writing. Acquisition of these skills should help students to develop their communication abilities in both languages: French and English. Sixty percent of courses included in the study plan are French courses, while the rest (40%) are English courses. The Department prepares graduates to be competent in both languages. Having completed the requirements of the B.A. Degree, students are granted the Degree in both English and French.

Department Of Educational Sciences
