Overview
In 1991, the Faculty of Architecture and Design was established at the University of Petra with two departments: Architecture and Interior Design. The Graphic Design Department was added in 2003. The study plan is based on the system of credit hours and semesters. The Faculty offers Bachelor’s Degree in the three specializations. The total number of enrolled students is (748). The number of graduates up till now is (714) students.
Due to the great importance of the infrastructure and equipment needed for teaching the theoretical and practical academic requirements of the three specializations, the Faculty provides 23 studios, seven computer labs, an acoustics lab, a silkscreen lab, a ceramics workshop, a photography lab and a model making lab, in addition to a large studio for Fine Arts, a carpentry and metal workshop and a permanent exhibition hall for students’ projects.
The Faculty encourages the teaching staff towards scientific research including attending international conferences. It also offers scholarships to distinguished graduates for further studies in distinguish universities internationally.
The Faculty is open to the local community through students’ projects that are mainly related to are directed to satisfy the present and futuristic needs and aspirations of the society.  It also forms assessment committees (Juries) composed of highly specialized people in their fields, from within and outside the Faculty to evaluate students’ proposed projects objectively and impartially.
The Faculty holds art exhibitions for its students, academic members reflecting their diverse schools of art. This would present a clear picture of the cultural variety and the artistic richness of the Faculty. 

To excel in developing the design profession through developing the creative thinking and preparing our graduates to positively contribute in serving the communities.

To provide an educational, cultural and social environment to facilitate creative and innovative thinking that will enhance students’ skills in serving the communities toward a meaningful positive change in a competitive job market.

Department

Architecture

The duration of study in this specialization is five years with 165 credit hours (Cr) distributed as follows:
 
27 Cr as university requirements (compulsory and elective), 27 Cr as faculty requirements (compulsory and elective), 88 Cr departmental requirements (compulsory and elective), 20 Cr departmental requirements (compulsory supportive), 3 Cr (free requirements). The student must complete uninterrupted 8-week field training.
 
The departmental academic courses put great emphasis on sustainable development and creativity in addressing materialistic and aesthetic needs of the society more..

Interior Design

The duration of study in this specialization is four years with 143 credit hours (cr) distributed as follows:

27 cr as university requirements (compulsory and elective), 27 cr as faculty requirements (compulsory and elective), 86 cr departmental requirements (compulsory and elective), 3 cr (free requirements). The student must complete uninterrupted 8-week field training.
 
The departmental academic courses satisfy the needs of the society for a better environmental, health, and aesthetic awareness through creative and objective designs more..

 

Graphic Design

 
The duration of study in this specialization is four years with 137 credit hours (Cr) distributed as follows:
 
27 Cr as university requirements (compulsory and elective), 24 Cr as faculty requirements (compulsory and elective), 83 Cr departmental requirements (compulsory and elective), 3 credit hours (Free requirements). The student must complete uninterrupted 8-week field training.
 
The departmental academic courses satisfy the constant needs for graphic design’s crucial role in the local economy and international advertising, and promotion fields in line with temporal and cultural needs..More

 

Animation & Multimedia

To keep pace with technological developments in the areas of animation movies’ industry and design of multimedia and digital games and to prepare well-qualified graduates, UOP launched Animation & Multimedia major at the Faculty of Architecture and Design starting from the Academic Year 2016/2017. The major launch aims to meet the needs of Jordanian and regional markets under the vast popularity of animation movies and multimedia among children or families, which are broadcasted on televisions and social media websites.
UOP provides the necessary infrastructure for Animation and Multimedia major such as: Computer labs, painting rooms, recording studios, animation studios, lectures’ halls, theaters and Wi-Fi service to ensure converting creative ideas to high quality animation movies and digital games. UOP library provides books, periodicals and specialized studies on animation and multimedia to improve the students academically and practically. 
Undergraduate student will learn about methods of designing animation and multimedia videos and steps of designing an animation video starting from using pencils to using animation design programs. The students will learn how to produce 2d and 3d animation movies and how to design characters and setting creatively. The major also includes courses on different techniques used in developing multimedia applications, including: Digital games, websites and visual and sound effects.
