Professor Abu-Ghanimeh holds a PhD in Architecture from the University of Rome, Italy (1997), a Postgraduate Diploma in Architectural Theory from the University of Rome, Italy (1992–1993), and a bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the University of Rome (1987).
He has held the rank of Professor since 2012, having been promoted to Associate Professor in 2005. He served as Vice President of Al al-Bayt University for Scientific Faculties from 2015 to 2018; Dean of the School of Arts and Design at the University of Jordan from 2023 to 2025; Dean of the School of Engineering at the University of Jordan from 2018 to 2021; Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Al al-Bayt University during the 2010–2011 academic year; and Dean of the Institute of Architecture and Islamic Arts at Al al-Bayt University from 2008 to 2010.
He also served as Chair of the Department of Architecture at the School of Engineering and Technology at the University of Jordan during 2004–2005, 2007–2008, and 2012–2014. In addition, he worked as a part-time consultant to the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority and has served as Secretary-General of the Forum of Arab Academic Architects since 2011.
Professor Abu-Ghanimeh was awarded the Knight’s Medal by the President of the Italian Republic in 2015. He also received the Antonietta Labisi Award in Catania, Italy, in recognition of his cultural and educational contributions in 2011. In 2006, he won first prize in the competition to design an Arab poster celebrating Arab Housing Day, organized by the Housing and Urban Development Corporation in Amman, Jordan.
In 2026, he was appointed to a three-year term as a member of the National Committee of the Arab Architects Organization and the Arab Engineers Union, affiliated with the League of Arab States. He has also served on numerous scientific committees, conference committees, faculty and advisory councils, and task forces.
