ABDULLAH II AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN GOVERNMENT
PERFORMANCE AND TRANSPARENCY IN ITS FIFTH CYCLE 2010/2011

ABSTRACT
This study aims to examine the effects of managerial roles (as described by
Mintzberg model, 2009) on the implementation of the criteria of the King Abdullah II
Award for Excellence [KAIIAE] in Government Performance and Transparency in
public institutions that won the award in its fifth cycle 2010/2011. A questionnaire
has been distributed to a random sample of 109 managers of the institutions awarded
of KAIIAE. A number of 63 completed questionnaires have been returned back at a
response rate of 58%.
After data analysis and hypotheses testing the following results were obtained:

1. There are significant effects for these managerial roles in implementing the
King Abdullah II Award Criteria in institutions that won the KAIIAE in its
fifth cycle 2010/2011.
2. There are significant effects for the information plane roles on the
implementation of the King Abdullah II Award Criteria in institutions that
won the KAIIAE in its fifth cycle 2010/2011.
3. There are significant effects for the people plane roles on the implementation
of the King Abdullah II Award Criteria in institutions that won the KAIIAE in
its fifth cycle 2010/2011.
4. There are no significant effects for action plane roles on implementation of the
King Abdullah II Award Criteria in institutions that won the KAIIAE in its
fifth cycle 2010/2011.
