MOTA Secretary General Honors UOP Winning Students of Design and Planning Competition

On behalf of the Minister of Tourism and Antiques, His Excellency Issa Gammoh, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities (MOTA), has given the awards of architectural graduation projects to the winners in a ceremony that was organized by Jordan Engineers Association (JEA) in cooperation with MOTA.
Students, Gaith Moyaaed Taher Awad, Marah Emad Ibrahaim Khatib, Aseel Essam Mahmoud Hamdan, Abdullah Ehssan Fahd Allaf and Dema Shakir Al Yahia from the University of Petra (UOP) and Muhammad Hani Muhammad Najjdawi from Private Applied Sciences University (ASU) have won the first place. Dr. Fatima Al-Nammari supervised UOP students and Eng. Mazen Nabulsi supervised ASU students.
The project of “Developing Hosni Sober Street at Al Bayader” aimed to discover the dimensions of green urban design and applied the principles of supporting sustainability to the existing areas.
This project was developed as a requirement of urban design course under the supervision of  Dr. Fatimah Alnimri. The said project aims to develop a part of Hosni Sober Street at Al Bayader and its surrounding environment under the principles of sustainable planning. The principles of sustainable planning require creating spaces for social interaction, user friendly technology, increasing the green areas and improving street's furniture.
Moreover, the project aimed to increase services as per population-set priorities list. The participating students have detailedly studied economic, social, environmental and physical features of the street. A general design strategy has been formulated for the area according to global urban principles.  Then each student has developed a design for a part of the area to produce an integrated design.
Three projects by UOP architecture students have won the first-phase of the competition, out of 16 projects. The winning projects include: ISHAN project that is a research and Ecotourism Center at Ahwar of Southern Iraq by student Zainab Al Rabaieh under the supervision of Dr.Hadeer Merza, “Agricultural Community Project - Low-cost Food Production Village” by the student Hebah Suheimat under the supervision of Dr. Fatimah AlNimri and Palestine Memory Center Project by student Sarah Sasa under the supervision of  Dr. Yasser Abu Hashem.
