The Chemistry Department hosted two international researchers to create new research partnerships and promote scientific cooperation. On the occasion of the Arab chemical week and in cooperation with the Jordanian Chemical Society, The Department hosted Dr. Ahmed El-Sabbagh, former Director of the Petroleum Research Institute in Egypt, who gave a lecture about "Using the surfactants in oil extraction and industry”, in the presence of interested researchers from the University of Petra and many chemistry department students.
On Tuesday the 5th of November, The President of Petra University Prof. Marwan Muwalla met Prof. Wolfgang Weigand - the Director of the Institute of Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry at Friedrich Schiller-Jena University-. They discussed the ways to strengthen the cooperation and the scientific research between the two universities.
Then a meeting was held between faculty members of the chemistry department with Professor Weigand to discuss the possibility of hosting the University of Jena for some researchers and outstanding students from the chemistry department. The two sides agreed to proceed with the procedures of a memorandum of understanding and cooperation between the chemistry department at the University of Petra and his German counterpart.
