On Monday 09/04/2018 students enrolled in the Petroleum Chemistry Course at the Chemistry Department at Petra University visited the Petroleum Refinery Company in Hashimiyah Region in Zarqa Governorate, accompanied by course instructor Dr. Nabil Eldurini. The aim of the visit is to get students to be familiar with the industrial processes in the refinery and the company's laboratories to identify the devices used in monitoring the industrial processes and quality of products of the company.
We were initially welcomed by the Training Department, where we were given a detailed Introduction about the company through a video presentation showing its achievements and the existing industrial processes. The students asked many questions, as the responses were good and rich in chemical knowledge. The students then toured the company's labs; especially those specialized in controlling the quality of oil derivatives used as fuel such as jet fuel, diesel, kerosene and gasoline. The students were briefed on how to determine and control the octane number of gasoline. In conclusion, we toured the company riding their bus on all the existing operating industrial units in the company where we briefed with high quality scientific information about petroleum industry, which will enrich the course very much. The students reacted very positively with the tour and were an example of discipline and following the instructions and security procedures in the refinery.
In conclusion, we thanked our hosts for their hospitality and for the scientific information that enriched our knowledge in the field of petroleum industries. The trip ended at 1:00 pm, after which we returned to the university according to the scheduled program.
We hope that this cooperation between our university and Petroleum Refinery Company will continue to serve our students and researchers in the field of petroleum industries.
