Twenty students from Department of Chemistry at Petra University, under the supervision of Mrs. Laila Kaddoura, participated in the event: "Nour El Nour Charity" initiative, which was held on Saturday, 04/09/2016, at Monuor Hotel. Open buffet lunch was offered for seventy orphans from various orphanages in the Kingdom, in addition to a number of old people from “Darat Samir Shamma”, and “Zahra Center”. The participation of the students is a part of the university's quest to serve the local society, especially those segments that suffered in their lives from harsh conditions, forcing them to live in shelters.
The ceremony included many recreational events, musical and theatrical performances, with the participation of a group of Jordanian artists, and media presence, to stand by those groups in need of support and special care. Also, gifts were distributed to the children and the elderly.
It is noteworthy that "Nour El Nour Charity" initiative was founded by Mrs Noor Hiari, a graduate of the Faculty of Media at Petra University. The initiative is voluntary and non-profit. It is concerned with the establishment of recreational activities, through an open Day, to groups of orphans, people with special needs, and the elderly in shelters.
