Pains of Stiff Neck

The stiff neck is a common problem that sometimes causes severe pains but it is not a problem to worry about.
Reasons
Bad sleeping and reading positions while lying on back;
Using computers and smartphones for long periods, which press on the neck muscles;
Bad position of head or neck during any other activity; and
Stress or worry that leads to stiffness of the neck muscles.
Home Remedies of the Stiff Neck
Use a pillow that suits the sleeping position. In fact, using multiple pillows increases pressure on the neck and its curved position. Avoid your head and shoulders from being curved forwards.
Put a hot water bladder that is encircled with a towel under your neck to ease the pain and stiffness.
Avoid driving your car for long periods as there is a difficulty in moving your neck to right or left.
Neck Stretching Exercise: The neck is stretched in a straight line for three minutes. By doing so, the muscles are stretched and pressure on blood vessels and nerves is lessened. This exercise is repeated 2-3 times daily.
Water remedy: Placing the neck in a hot water after adding two cups of Epsom Salt (Magnesium Sulfate), which result in the relaxation of neck muscles and easing the pain. This exercise lasts for 15 to 20 minutes.
We wish you the best of health and wellness
Dr. Mohamad Esmael Mohamad Asha
