The university aims at following the best practices in energy efficiency during all renovation and maintenance processes of existing buildings as well as for any future expansion plans.
Supplies and procurement department at UoP has issued a directive that limits all purchases to the best possible energy efficiency rating for all maintenance, operational, and expansion activities. As a result, all the lighting fixtures across the campus were replaced by LEDs lights over three years period and consequently reduced electricity consumption by 30%. The university provides its employees and students with affordable – at cost mass transportation from major areas to the university to reduce the need for using private cars.
The university encourages cooperation with local and governmental agencies in information, research and technologies exchange in the field of energy efficiency. Several MOUs and collaboration agreements have been signed and joint research projects have been conducted. UoP has supported many neighboring schools' activities that promote energy efficiency, environmental, and sustainable practices.
