Discussing Cooperation between University of Petra and “Amman Group for Future Dialogues”

Professor Marwan Muwalla, the president of University of Petra, received the delegation of Amman Group for Future Dialogues/Public Education and Higher Education Committee. During a meeting held at Marwan Al Dahleh Meeting Room, both sides discussed ideas for improving education, raising awareness of young people and countering hatred and extremism. 
At the beginning of meeting, Prof. Muwalla presented a brief review on the University, including last year’s most significant highlights and the achievements made by the students and faculties. Prof. Muwalla also reviewed the University majors, the University vision and future plans for infrastructure improvement, modernization of labs, materials improvement and teachers’ competency improvement.
"The meeting is in consistent with the University constant quest to improving educational process. The improvement process includes the educational programs, circular activities, extra-curricular activities, teaching methods, teaching staff recruitment and improving their experience. The University constantly seeks to launch new majors and adapts the programs and majors to market changing needs . The University seeks also to foster dialogue, non-use of violence, respect for others, pluralism and sense of belonging to homeland." he added
Belal Al Tal, the Chairman of delegation of Public Education and Higher Education Committee from Amman Group for Future Dialogues, said that the committee interest in education starts with intellectual level and countering extremist views. It then moves to the followed procedures to build intellectual awareness and academic and applied skills to utilize young people capabilities, as it is the largest segment in the society.
"The group issued a document aiming to counter extremism entitled "One Nation in Countering Takfeerism" and translated it into English" Al Tal Added.
Al Tal said that countering Takfeeri Discourse requires intellectual awareness and shedding light on young people’s role in building and developing the society through strengthening citizenship and building religious and social discourse that counters Takfeeri ideology, stressing the importance of cooperation between Jordanian universities and the group.
The delegation included Belal Hassan Al Tal the Committee Chairperson and Editor-in-chief of Al Liwaa Weekly Newspaper, Prof. Abduallah Al Moussa former president of Jordan University and Yarmouk University, Dr. Omar Al Rimawi Member of UOP Board of Trustees and former president of Al-Balqa` Applied University, and Eng. Saker Al Dien Dodeen.
