Prof. Marwan Muwalla, President of University of Petra (UOP), sponsored the two-day graduation ceremony of the summer semester for the University Year 2016/2017 at UOP Green Square. The total number of graduates was 580.
UOP professors and instructors helped students to acquire skills and competencies needed in the labor market along with the theoretical information, Prof. Muwalla said, stressing that accrediting Computer Information Systems and Computer Science by ABET and granting quality assurance certificate to UOP by HEAC for the second year on a raw are clear indicators on UOP excellence.
Prof. Muwalla also referred to UOP students’ achievements in competitive examinations and international competitions as well as UOP high ranking in QS University Rankings.
“I would like to wholeheartedly congratulate you and your families, hoping that you are aware of awesome challenges that face our nation at all levels and show responsibility scientifically, ethically and professionally,” Prof. Muwalla added.
Student, Essa Abu Matar delivered the graduates’ speech in the first day of graduation. He said “UOP professors are committed to prepare continuously productive graduates who know the value of science and knowledge and we are highly appreciated to our teaching staff, who are the heirs of the Prophets”.
Student, Fatima Alramahi delivered the graduates’ speech in the second day of graduation. She said: “Respected gathering, UOP administration and our unforgettable professors. Our words fail to express our deep sense of appreciation to you and whatever we say, we will not completely appreciate your efforts. We truly hope to take responsibilities and meet your expectations.”
The ceremony also included speeches delivered by UOP working graduates. In the first day of graduation, tutor Samah Hanbali delivered working graduates speech. She said: “I have obtained Bachelor's Degree in English Language from UOP. Upon graduation, I have served as a translator and news coordinator in Al-Jazeera Channel. Thereafter, I enrolled in Master Program in Translation, recruited as UOP Lab Supervisor and became an instructor in the Department of English Language Literature and Translation in 2015 to date”.
In the second day of graduation, journalist, Hussam Al-Taie delivered working graduates’ speech. It is worth highlighting that Al-Taie has obtained bachelor and master degrees from UOP, worked for channels and news websites and wrote articles in many local, Arab and international newspapers. He said: “I am delighted to be part of this graduation ceremony in this leading university. I was a UOP student few years ago. My primary objective was to seek knowledge and discover myself. During that period, respected professors and instructors have inculcated thirst for knowledge in us”.
