Administrative & Financial Sciences-Overview, Mission, Vision, Objectives

Overview
The Faculty of Administrative and Financial Sciences (FAFS) was established in 1991, with 5 faculty members and 55 female students. By the first semester of 2009/2010 the number of students reached 2900 with 83 faculty members, of which 67 hold Ph.D. degrees, 16 hold masters, and 7 lab technicians and mentors.

The Faculty offers Six majors; Business Administration, Finance and Banking, Accounting-Business & Commerce, Management Information Systems, and Marketing. It also offers evening programs in four of these majors. The faculty plans to add a new program in Business Administration leading to an MBA degree next year. These majors prepare graduates for jobs in both public and private sectors or pursue graduate studies in these majors.

Students in all majors are guided by intensive advising from faculty members, they are provided with education in the use of computers, information technology, and English language, with the aid of Blackboard material as a step toward E-learning. As a result, the Faculty had scored high in the University Achievement Exam held by the Ministry of Higher Education for all Jordanian Universities.

FAFS has 7 computer labs, one of which is designed as a simulation room for Amman Borse, in which students learn how to trade stocks in Amman stock Exchange. In addition, 21 classrooms are equipped with Data Shows, and 4 more are to be added soon.

FAFS has an intensive scholarship program whereby selected holders of Masters Degrees in any of its majors are hired and consequently offered Ph.D. scholarships. Nine of those who held scholarships completed their studies and joined the ranks of the college. Three more Ph.D. scholarships in e-business and commerce and MIS are expected to finish their studies in coming summer and join the faculty at the begining of the academic year 2010-2011 Two Masters Scholarship were offered for two of its graduates in finance and Banking and Business Administration.

FAFS offers free training programs for senior students in different subjects to enable them to acquire additional useful skills in their majors. FAFS also conducts weekly one-hour seminars in which faculty members Present to their colleagues a research topic for discussion . It also hosts several public speakers, and its faculty members are encouraged to participate in conferences, training sessions and workshops.


Looking into the Future

• The Faculty will launch a graduate program leading to a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree next year. The MBA program provides students with management skills and business expertise that open new career opportunities at the executive levels for students.
• Quality Assurance Principles have been implemented successfully at many areas and processes in the faculty such as courses’ syllabuses, grading system, and examination. FAFS plans to implement the remaining aspects of quality assurance to cover all areas and processes in the faculty.
• To increase chances for student success, the faculty implemented e-learning through using learning management system to provide students with electronic syllabuses, courses’ materials, assignments, and exams. Moreover, students can interact with instructors and other students through virtual classes and different forums such discussion forum. FAFS plans to introduce online programs for students who cannot register as full time.

Offering innovative and internationally - accredited programs that are appropriate to the needs of students, and the market , and continually improving its academic programs and encouraging research in order to maintain its standing as a faculty of excellence in higher education.


Objectives
1. Offer a range of educational programs appropriate to the needs of students and the labor market.
2. Provide students with an up-to-date higher education in business and develop them to their full potential.
3. Provide students with the needed knowledge and skills for better understanding of business environment and better performance in their careers.
4. Provide an appropriate environment for research and methods modern teaching.
5. Provide community service through consulting and exchanging information and knowledge.
